Who is the edible artist?
Linda Khachadurian, a Beirut-born medical editor, edible artist, activist, and instructor, and international educational nonprofit founder, has seamlessly blended artistry, science, education, and a compassionate heart into her life's work.
A storyteller through sugar, Linda’s edible designs reflects her passion for sweetness and her mission: creating sweet stories for even sweeter causes. She imparts knowledge about the science of sugar (isomalt) and chocolate, plus other edible mediums such as potato starch and rice paper through her edible art classes. She also teaches several Armenian cuisine and culture classes, utilizing original recipes she's created based on family classics.
Her edible designs have been sold at retailers such as UncommonGoods and displayed everywhere from multiple East Coast art galleries to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in LA to the Marriott Marquis in NYC to the Sheraton Boston Hotel.Collaborations with renowned entities such as Ben & Jerry’s and the New England Botanic Gardens underscore her artistic prowess.
Linda’s edible art skills were also showcased on the Food Network show, Candy Land, as well as on The Charitable Confectioner -- a series she created for Cambridge Community Television. She holds degrees from Johns Hopkins and Harvard. Her science and visual arts background allows her to explore how they intersect with culinary arts. -
Didin't this site used to be called Chipper Confections, and what is the relation to the nonprofit Charitable Confections?
The inception of Linda’s educational nonprofit, Charitable Confections, traces back to a significant encounter in 2009 when she met a Restavek, a child slave, in Haiti. The child expressed a fervent wish – to receive an education and aspire to a brighter future. This encounter profoundly impacted Linda, igniting the idea of leveraging her passion for edible art to bring about positive change.
A few years later, she put together the grassroots group of volunteers and named it Charitable Confections, taking inspiration from the Mother Theresa quote, “Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls,” to use her whimsical edible art to draw in partners, volunteers, and donors. The organization became incorporated and granted 501(c) (3) status in 2017.
Building on the foundation of Charitable Confections, Linda introduced Chipper Confections in 2015, which she referred to as “the business-minded sister” of Charitable Confections, a digital platform dedicated to the artistry of sugar and chocolate. The business partnered with and donated 5% of all sale proceeds to Pure Water for the World, an organization Linda had met while writing an article about safe water in Haiti for The Harvard Review of Latin America a few years earlier.
Beyond being a creative venture, Chipper Confections was a testament to Linda’s commitment to raising awareness about social issues that were close to heart and for which she had done advocacy work. Linda was elected to Pure Water for the World’s board of directors in 2023. When the organization started the process of dissolving later that year, Linda decided to lay Chipper Confections to rest and carry forth with her edible art under her own name.

What is isomalt?
Isomalt is a sugar derived from sugar beets. It starts out as sucrose, which is then transformed by chemists into a compound disaccharide that consists of a molecule of glucose-mannitol joined to a molecule of glucose-sorbitol. Because isomalt is non-hygroscopic, sculptures that have been crafted from it tend to get much less murky or sticky than those that have been constructed with sucrose.
